Do you play it safe?

March is Women’s History Month. A celebration of courageous and passionate women who learned how to overcome their, and even societies, limits and boundaries! These women learned how to leave their comfort zone and instead lead their lives from the Power Zone!

I’ll be sharing stories of powerful women over the month – so be sure to check out out my Facebook fan page too.  Together let’s take advantage of celebrating and “acknowledging” what we as women are capable of. (For my male readers - help acknowledge the women in your life and use that to inspire you!)

The act of “acknowledgment” raises our consciousness of our capability and even our personal accountability not to settle, not to fear our greatness, not to diminish our dreams. I have found many women- regardless of their status, success, position or other- struggle with acknowledging and allowing themselves to claim their gifts, talents, passions and personal power.

Yes – Needlessly Struggle!

So much so that it brings up deep emotions, denial, guilt, regret and even self-anger. All because they feel their powerful self, beckoning them, and they are too scared to answer the call. Instead, they play it safe.

How sad is that! I think it is absolutely tragic!!

One woman in history I admire for answering her call is   – Amelia Earhart.

As Amelia Earhart said – “Who wants a life imprisoned in safety?”

Amelia_1936Amelia was not about playing it safe, in the comfort zone. She was a risk taker, a dreamer and a visionary living her passions to the fullest. Her strong will and conviction enabled her to overcome the challenging technical problems, gender bias and financial obstacles she faced.

Though her life ended through a plane crash, she is remembered for living with no regrets and with purpose and passion. How many of us will be remembered that way? How many of us will experience a life with that kind of freedom?

She is a woman to celebrate! I have to think she would want to inspire us even in this day and age – to soar to our potential.

Check out this short preview clip that is inspirational too! I enjoyed the movie.  I hope when my life is done, I’ll be remembered for purpose and passion and NOT playing it safe!

Take the challenge: Are you “imprisoned” in safety?

  • Do you hold back when you feel a stirring to take action?
  • When you get big ideas, do you justify or make excuses?
  • Do you secretly believe in your capabilities but outwardly diminish and hide them?
  • Do you limit how authentically you show up in your relationships?
  • Do you see limits, boundaries and circumstances instead of opportunity?
  • Does taking risks to grow and change make you nervous?

If you answered NO to most of these, you are poised to play bigger and go far!

If you answered YES to most of these, you ARE playing in your comfort zone!

Whether in your personal or professional life, you have the power to acknowledge and claim all that you are capable of creating. You are no different than all the famous women in history. You have potential beyond your imagination! The difference is they chose NOT to play it safe!

Take time to stop and acknowledge your capabilities. What personal power are you not tapping into? What do you want to create that you haven’t? How do you want to stop playing it safe?  The act of doing this can be so freeing and liberating. It’s like as one client shared with me – “I feel like I can see, feel and believe in a new me!”  Now she is soaring to new heights and experiencing more joy and peace.  It’s your turn!

To the power in you!

“Each time I stepped into fear away from comfort I grew, I learned something new about myself, I adapted, and I expressed my potential more completely! ” – Rene’ Johnson

Thank you Collette and Meeta for commenting on my blog! I am glad you are inspired and reminded to practice self-honor and be your best self. You two are powerful women – don’t forget it!

  • NO to most of the questions above. That is my true self, but sometimes the authentic self gets stifled by the facade, and forgets who to honor. Thanks for the reminder, Rene!!
