How important is our belief in ourself? How does it influence our life, relationships, career or business? How does it affect our quality of life and the ability to claim all we are deserving of?
These are some big questions – with a simple, but powerful, answer!
We are what we think we are!
In the coaching, self-help world, this is a core principle. And if you’ve ever gone to any type of workshop or training around self-improvement, you’ve heard this too. Here is my take on this concept:
Our life experiences are a product of our thinking. You will experience life through your “belief window” which is made up of your thoughts. This is yours alone – no one has control over the way you think!
Our ability to go after BIG goals, such as start a business, is in direct correlation to our self-belief. Because our ability to stay true to our passions is tied to our beliefs of whether we are worthy or capable of seeing our passions through. Case in point, Warner’s CEO Edgar Bronfman, Jr. stated this in the video link I sent out Friday that self-belief influences being a successful entrepreneur. I could share many such scenarios and claims by other experts to validate my point.
If this point is well known, why does the importance of raising our self-awareness of what we are capable of, in essence, our self-belief, get overlooked and more often minimized?
#1 Reason: We fear claiming our power!
Claiming our power means we finally own what I call our “junk in the trunk” (negative chatter and beliefs, poor choices, guilt and regrets, blame on others or circumstances) and say enough hiding or ignoring! We instead forgive ourselves, leverage the past, stand taller and give ourselves permission to be our real, authentic, higher self. Even if it means others may be scared by our leaving our comfort zone and entering our Power Zone!
#2 Reason: We secretly know our life would be different if we own our powerful, authentic self.
Living up to this higher expectation can be scary. What if my wildest dreams and passions came true? How would I handle it? Who would I become? What if I fail, what if I succeed?
Here’s the truth – when you are living in your Power Zone, you can handle it. You will be energized and fear replaced by courage. Here, you absolutely cannot fail, because this is who you already are! You are only diminishing yourself by your own self-doubt and limiting beliefs. That doesn’t mean your powerful self isn’t there – it just hasn’t had the permission to show up yet!
Here are some examples of client transformations:
· Freed themself from the MYTH that confident women have all the answers -By allowing support opens up many more possibilities and quicker results.
· Had a courageous conversations with a (spouse, friend, boss) and found out they will support him/her to (fill in blank) and just needed the permission to discuss.
· Stood up for self and said No Thank You – and through their example, others grew and honored themselves.
· Owned their internal voice of needing to serve and started a business even when it didn’t seem possible.
There is a lot of draining, negative energy tied to any one of these not being resolved. There is also relief and an improved quality of life that is experienced when beliefs and expectations for oneself are raised.
I witness repeatedly in my clients’ lives the discovery and amazement of how connecting to and owning our thoughts can affect everything! How quickly this can happen is subject to how willing you are to take control over your thoughts. I am humbled and exhilarated at the same time when this simple but powerful concept creates often life transforming experiences in my clients’ lives.
