Fearlessly on Purpose, Part 1

Over the holiday season, I worked on my new vision of success for 2012. As I developed this, I gave thought to areas of growth that would make the biggest differences for me and for those I serve through my business. The word “fearless” kept coming up. As I’ve shared this idea with a few friends, they pondered why I would choose fearless. After all, in their eyes, I’ve demonstrated this quality through overcoming a near death domestic violence experience in 1994, being a single parent and going back to school, being an entrepreneur and starting a business 8 years ago, thriving in this downward economy, writing my book about leaving your comfort zone, speaking to audiences in the hundreds and so on. But this word kept stirring in my thoughts and soul. So I reflected…where and how can I use fearless to accelerate my goal for being a leader in my life and business? And then it hit me—as opportunities to dig deeper and be braver were revealed to me! As a result, I‘ve themed this year – my fearlessly on purpose year! And, I want to share with you where I plan to stretch and grow in my leadership roles, my life and my business, and to challenge you to also consider the impact it can have on you.

Let’s start with life!

Live it NOW

“The purpose of life, after all, is to live it, to taste experience to the utmost, to reach out eagerly and without fear for newer and richer experiences.” ~ Eleanor Roosevelt

This part of fearlessness is about being a “bold adventurer” on my journey to success. How often do we postpone being connected fully in our lives? When I assessed this, I found that sometimes I hold back experiencing life TODAY by waiting for the “when this happens..”, or, “if I do, then…” that would somehow grant me permission to be present and embrace the joy, happiness, peace or even learning opportunities taking place every day. As I’ve increased my awareness of when I am doing this, it was as if I stopped holding my breath and exhaled. I could feel life flowing through me, the important things that mattered touched me today, not when I arrived, had time or when things were perfect to experience it, but NOW. Now is what is happening every moment of the day. Are you one step in the now and the other divided between your past and future? That’s not a leadership position over your life.

Be Present and Fully Engaged in Relationships

This part of fearlessness is about tapping into “courage” to show up more authentically in my relationships – even if there may be pain to work through. I don’t know about you, but family relationships can be messy and sometimes it’s easier to go on auto-pilot or avoid altogether then face and resolve. Our loved ones are our most important relationships, and when our journey is done, we’ll not look back at the things we bought with our money, but rather the time we spent with those we love and the experiences we created together. So my challenge to myself and you is to evaluate where having “courageous conversations” could be beneficial. And, to prevent misunderstandings in the future, be more fully engaged in all conversations, working to bring out the best in each other, even if don’t see eye to eye.

Keep Self Agreements

“Success means having the courage, the determination, and the will to become the person you believe you were meant to be.” ~ George Sheehan

Anyone who knows me knows I pride my success on my ability, and some may even say my obsession, to follow through. In fact, my clients have affectionately dubbed me Ms. Accountability, and sometimes hire me just to help them follow through. So why is this part of my fearless year? I took an honest assessment of my values and found that I wasn’t following through on all as I had thought. And it wasn’t about having the time to complete; it was about keeping agreements with myself. Such as, if I set an agreement to start my day with reading my power zone affirmation and then the next day slept in a little later and had to rush and not read until later in the day, I started my day out by “not honoring” the most important person in my life, me! And as a result, I don’t get the benefits from taking the steps that will honor me and help me lead from my power zone, where I am deliberate and fearlessly on purpose. While breaking that agreement may seem small, it leads to others being broken, like getting to the gym, not saying no thank you to things that take me from my vision, and so forth. I had to come clean and be honest with myself, so I could further become the person I deserve to be. But, I am so glad I did, it’s been so rewarding!

Where can you be more fearlessly on purpose and show up more fully in your life?

These honest evaluations of yourself may seem a bit daunting, but will richly reward you, your relationships and your business as you fearlessly move forward!

I dare you to self-evaluate and find at least one area you can grow to become the leader in the life you deserve. Love to hear, share your thoughts below!

To the power in you,
